Disney Cars Room

I’m not even really sure how I feel about the fact that I’m finally writing this post.

I started brainstorming ideas for Cole’s room long before we even found our house.

In the old house, Cole was sleeping in our room. We only had three bedrooms and we felt that the girls benefited most from having their own rooms at that house. Cole was so little, and we knew our end goal was to be in a bigger house before he was old enough to care.

So needless to say getting him in his own room has been my number one goal since getting here.

Since he was in our room for so long at the old house and then bunking with his sister or us for three months while we were at my in laws, its been pretty hard to get him to feel comfortable on his own. I knew it was to be expected, so I have been hyping up his room to him for months.

He got to choose the theme and come with me to the store to pick out the sheets and pillow cases. He got pretty side tracked with all the toy cars so I took over from there. 🙂

We started with these sheets from target. I felt that they were busy enough so we just grabbed a red quilt but I also wanted to show a little more of the theme so I searched for some lightning McQueen throw pillows. I found this cute one on Amazon. And then I just added a couple of yellow and white striped pillow cases to throw in the mix!

I have seen so many people trying out the faux brick panels and I thought that would be the perfect accent wall for his room. Something about brick walls and race cars just seem to go together. I knew right away that I wanted to white wash it but when it first went up I was so torn! I loved the red brick look for a boys room, but I also really love white washed brick so I decided to go for it! 🙂 And I’m soo happy that I did!!

Once I got the panels up ( and by I, I mean Hubby). I painted the walls with Benjamin Moore white dove in a flat finish. Flat paint is not quite as easy to clean but it looks so much better on the walls and hides all the imperfections.

My oldest is super artistic. So when I decided I wanted the Rusteze sign on the wall and our projector was acting up I knew I could count on her. My girl free handed this thing in an hour and then I spent about 5 going over it with the sharpie Paint pens. I’ll probably go over it again with acrylic paint to even out the pen strokes, but for now the sharpie paint pens did the trick. And it was super easy to keep the sharp lines with the pens. They came in two different sizes so I used the smaller one around the letters and the bigger ones for the main coloring.

Coles room is super small, so when decorating I knew I had to focus on little details. Little things that would give the room some personality. I found this checkered flag banner on amazon. It was super cheap and added the perfect little touch to the room.

I also found this cool old gas tank clock at Home Goods.

Another one of my homegoods finds were these Tommy Hilfiger curtains. They were only $24 for two panels! And the quality if amazing! I was so nervous about mixing blue and white stripes with the red blanket but I think it ended up going so good together!

The route 66 sign above his closet is also from Amazon. Having Amazon Prime made this project so much easier for me! Any time a new idea came to mind I would search Amazon for it and two days later it would be on my doorstep! I’d have to say my absolute favorite find was the area rug. I wanted to go kind of Aztec with the rug since the Cars movie is based in Arizona near the deserts. And when I found this one for only $43, I knew it was meant to be. And seeing Cole jump right on it and play Cars as soon as I laid it out was just the icing on the cake.

The paton blueprint pictures came from the Etsy shop DigitalBluePrints. I got one of a Corvette. After doing a little research it seems the general consensus is that Lightning Mcqueen is a Corvette so I thought it was only appropriate to go with the corvette blue print. The second one is the blue print of a vehicle wheel.

I got this Route 66 print from LaurasPrintableArt on Etsy. Absolutely stunning picture!

And finally the Mater sign is from the Etsy Shop DigitalPaintsshop.

So much talent around the web!

Coles room took me so much longer then I anticipated. But it turns out, moving really is for the Birds! We are still sorting through boxes and trying to make this house feel like our home a little at a time. All while still maintaining our daily schedules of school, sports and everything else you could possibly throw in the mix. Its A lot!! But I am sooo happy to finally have this first big project complete.  Or at least almost complete, I still feel like it needs a few things but I haven’t figure it out yet.

Tonight is the first night we’re going to give sleeping in his room a try! We’ll see how that goes!

Baby steps…

Hope you all enjoyed the tour!
