February Book Review 2019

Its February Book Review Time!

Last month I posted my very first Book Review that you can find here.

While I’m not an expert book reviewer by any means, I just thought it would be fun to give a little feedback on some of the books I’m reading for anyone who might be looking for a new one.

I ended last month with “My Sisters Grave” which I mentioned in my review was read in record time for me.

I was on the edge of my seat and had to get to the ending.

So Naturally I wanted to read the second book in the trilogy that follows the main character “Tracy Crosswhite”

This book is called

“Her Final Breath”

If I’m being brutally honest, this book Bored the hell out of me.

But I wanted to stay committed and read through to the end, because you just never know when you’ll discover a plot twist that turns the whole book around.

And though there was a bit of a twist.

It was just hard for me to stay interested.

Her final breath is about the case of a murder that was deemed a “cold case” after Tracey left town to deal with her sisters case in the first book “My Sisters Grave”

The book picks up several months after the ending of the first book and there’s another murder eerily similar to the first murder that was never solved.

To me, this was just a little too law and order.

Been there done that, watched that seen that kind of thing.

So definitely a slow read for me.

But I was able to speed it up a little after reading Shay’s review of the Book “Verity”.

Shay said she hated it and that it was just too disturbing for her.

But for me…she had me at disturbing.

I checked out the book on “Good Reads” and became even more intrigued after reading the reviews.

One readers review “Me, rollerblading into my therapists office with sunglasses and a pina colada and dropping the book on the desk with a thud”

Another review “Help Me”

“Bold, Unrelenting. All-Consuming. Creepy.”

“This book was disturbing in a way that is hard to put into words”

Sooo, yeah…I had to read it.

And I totally blew threw my two day record.

I picked this book up on a Saturday morning and was finished by Saturday afternoon.

Yes, I spent an entire day reading a book.

But in my opinion it was so worth.

This was not at all a book you would think came from Colleen Hoovers romantic little brain.

Disturbing FOR. SURE.

This book was grotesque from the very first chapter.

There were parts that for me, were definitely difficult to read.

Parts where I wanted so badly to shut the book and never open it again because it was just so wrong…

But I couldn’t put it down.

I just COULD. NOT.

I want to give absolutely NOTHING away.

So I will just tell you, this book is about a young writer who lands the job of finishing a book series for a world renowned Author who was in an accident and is unable to write it herself.

She accepts the job and heads to the home of the author to look through her notes and get an idea of how to go about writing the next three books in this series.

That’s when she discovers one of the most disturbing autobiographies every written…..

Read this book.

I would definitely recommend it.

But please be warned.

It is very rated R. And VERY disturbing on many levels.

Okay…now that we got that out of the way.

The next book I went for was

“The Family Next Door”

This one was pretty good.

I wouldn’t put it on my Top Reads list at all, but it wasn’t horrible.

This one follows several families in a neighborhood in Australia.

Its takes a peak into their very far from perfect lives.

The book really makes you think about what is going on behind the walls of the people who are living next door to you.

People whom you think you know far better then you actually do.

It had many “Grass is Always Greener” references.

How we always think we want what others have, but do we really?

We all have our hardships.

We all have our secrets.

This one definitely has a plot twist that I did not see coming.

And lastly, I read

“Big Little Lies” By Liane Moriarty

Ok.

So this one, first of all confused the hell out of me in the beginning.

There were so many character names thrown out right at the beginning in the form of dialogue.

They were all being interviewed and talking about so many random things, that at the moment made no sense to me.

Once you get past that though, the book was pretty good.

It was super similar, in my opinion, to “The Family Next Door”, which is maybe another reason why is was a bit confusing to me.

I felt like I was reading the same book forever but it was really two completely different books.

Just so many similarities.

They were both set in Australia.

Both followed the lives of several different families.

Both touched on the secrets that all of these families have.

Lots of drama.

Lots of gossip.

Again I will say, it wasn’t a favorite,But it was pretty good.

I would definitely give it a read in your spare time.

I also wasn’t aware that it is actually a television series, so maybe I’ll check that out too.

I’m currently reading “Big Sexy Love” that I was hoping to get finished in time to add to my February Review, but darn “Handmaids Tale” got in the the way.

Tal about disturbing.

So I’ll just have that as my first March review.

I’d love to hear from you guy about anything you are reading or would recommend. I’m always looking to add books to my list! 🙂

Looking forward to what March will bring!
