July Book Review

I am soo late on this one guys!

But, you know what they say. Better late then never.

I was so sure that I would have time to be read so many good books this summer, but life had other plans for me.

Its been such a go, go, go summer for us that I was only able to sneak in two books this month.

One I didn’t really care for the other one I LOVED!

The first book I read was one that I’ve heard many good things about but sadly I was super disappointed.

I read “The Wife Between Us” at the beginning of the month and for me, it was much too predictable.

Its broken down into three parts and part one ended exactly like I thought it was going to.

There were a few minor surprises for me. One little plot twist at the end, that I didn’t see coming. But all in all it was just a so so book for me.

This book was about a marriage that ended. A wife who has been mentally unstable ever since. And a new relationship on the horizon.

I don’t want to give you too many details about it, because there are a few twists and turns that I don’t want to give anything away if you decide to read it.

I was able to read through it pretty quickly, so I guess you could say it did hold my interest, but it just kind of fell short for me.

Anyone else read this one?

What did you think? Did I miss something? I just wasn’t’ feeling it for some reason.

Next, I decided to completely shift gears and pick up a Historical Fiction book.

“The Nightingale” is written by one of my favorite authors, Kristen Hannah.

She won me over when I read “The Great Alone”. Such an amazing story of life and loss and the ultimate fight for happiness. You can read my full review for that one here.

The Nightingale is a story that takes place during World War 2.

Focusing on two sisters who witnessed first hand what a war can do to a man.

When there own father came home from the Great War he was a completely different person then he was when he left.

So when World War 2 started they were both terrified and prepared at the same time.

The oldest sister had to find strength as her husband would be called to fight and the younger sister was eager to get out and do something on her own. Something that would help France and all of the people who were and would be effected by the ugliness that was to come.

The story is told with such emotion and realness that I forgot a few times that it was a fictional story.

Kristin Hannah goes into such detail about the war. Her writing is phenomenal and she had me hooked through the entire book.

I would highly recommend this one!

Sadly, that was all I got through in July.

I’m super bummed I don’t have more to share with you guys. I really had my expectations set so high this month, but softball and kid stuff just took over.

I’m hoping I’ll be able to get through a few good ones this month though! I’m in the middle of a pretty cute book right now. Hoping to finish that up this week.

What have you guys been up to this summer?

Have you been able to read more or less then you normally do?

I really thought summer was the best time to get it done, but I was so wrong this year.

Anyway, I hope you are all enjoying the summer. So hard to believe that a new school year is right around the corner.
