Best games for the whole family!

I’m a stay at home mom. Have been for nearly twelve years.

I do work part time, but for the most part I’m home.

I’m used to being home.

Playing with kids.

Doing the laundry.

Making the food and cleaning up all the messes all day every day, day in and day out.

But THIS…

THIS is HARD guys!

This shelter in place, don’t go to any stores, museums, bowling alleys, arcades….

Its for the birds!

BUT, I’m one of those, make the best of it kind of girls, and I plan on doing just that.

I know many of you are feeling that same kind of way, so I rounded up a few of my families favorite games to help ease the pain of being stuck at home indefinitely.

In our house we have preschoolers, teenagers and adults so I have plenty of games to make everyone happy! 🙂

Keep on Keeping on!!

Hoot Owl Hoot is a fun game that my sister got for Cole one Christmas. He LOVES it and its something we adults can handle too, as in it won’t bore the heck out of you! You can play a few different levels (Easy, medium, hard) and although you take individual turns you are playing together as a team so there is no winner or loser. We have probably played 50 times this past week. The object is to get the owls safely back to their nest before the sun rises!

Eye Spy Dig In game. This is another one we love playing with the little ones. Its actually a lot of fun. Everyone takes a card with 6 pictures on it. The games comes with a bunch of plastic game pieces that represent each picture. Taking turns you get about 30 seconds to search in the bowl for the pieces shown on your card. Younger players get to take two flips of the timer so they get a minute. Then for the second round, everyone can search at the same time but they can only use one hand, first player to get all six game pieces on their card wins!

Operation. Its so fun to see this game still being sold. This was one of my absolute favorites when I was a kid. Its a little tricky for the littlest ones to really grab the pieces without getting zapped, but its still a lot of fun!

And to keep up with the times they are now offering several variations of the game.

  1. Finding Dory
  2.  Trolls
  3.  Star Wars (Chewbacca)
  4.  Nightmare before Christmas
  5.  Doc McStuffins

Another classis is Twister. Add a little twist to your classic twister game by bringing it outside and adding washable paint to each colored circle! Have Fun! Get Messy! For Christmas we also got blind folded Twister, we haven’t pulled that out yet this week, but it’s a ton of fun! You’ll be sure to have some laughs.

Toy Story Kerplunk has been a hit in our house this week. I remember playing a similar one to this when I was younger. You put all the sticks through the plastic tower to create a sort of trap, then dump the hanging bunnies and duckies and have to take turns pulling one stick out at a time. There are two different ways to win, either the person who has the least amount of bunnies and Ducks at the end or the person who saves Buzz Lightyear.

As for us bigger kids, one of our classic favorites is Monopoly. I used to HATE this game, but my girls got into playing it with their grandparents and they love it. So we would get into games when we were vacationing at the beach since we could stop and go throughout the week. Because we all know the game can go on for dayss if you play it all the way through. Now would be the perfect time to pull that dusty game off the shelf! 😉

We also love the game Forbidden Island. My sister turned us on to this game a few years ago and it’s super addictive. Its basically an teen/adult version of the Hoot Owl Hoot game. Everyone takes individual turns but we are all working together to collect the four treasures before the island ends up under water! They have another very similar and equally as fun game called forbidden desert as well.

Qwixx is a fun little dice game that we’ve been playing this past week. I mentioned this one in my Amazon Lately Post the other day. I can not for the life of me win against anyone in my family, but its still a fun game to pass the time. 🙂

Qwirkle is one that we’ve been playing for years now. Its another fun game of strategy, where you build lines by matching tiles based on either color or shape, and score points for doing so. This one is bit of a longer game. Cole will sit and play this one with us on someone’s team for 1/2 of the game but then he fizzles out.

We just got this fun little card game in the mail today. Its called Taco, Cat, Goat, Cheese, Pizza. Its super silly and fun. I guess you could say its similar in a way to slap jack, if anyone’s ever heard of that. Basically you split the deck into however many people you have playing, and take turns flipping over your top card. As you flip the card you have to take turns saying, in order, taco, cat, goat, cheese, pizza. If its your turn and you flip the cat and are saying cat everyone has to slap there hand down on top of the card, last person to do so has to take all the cards in the pile. Trust me its super fun and under $10. There will definitely be many laughs with this one!

Sushi Go! is another card game that we haven’t played in a while but is definitely a fun time!

A few more honorable mentions below! I think the best thing to do these days is to just make the most of every moment. Even if you are still working or are being forced to work from home, try your best to make time for simple moments with the family.

Have fun..Play a game or two and relax whenever possible.

Sending much love to you all!!
