It has been a minute guys!!
I have been MIA for basically all of 2020 so far! My mom brain has been complete mush and I have been suffering from a major creative block.
I’m just going to go ahead and call it the February Funk, because I am so over this winter season. Even though its been a pretty mild winter, we’ve been forced inside for most of it because it was so rainy!
But any who, I’m ready to jump back on this blogging train and what better way to do that then with the fun link up party that Shay and Sheaffer host called What’s up Wednesday!
This will be a fun way for me to catch everyone up on what’s been going on in the Johnston household lately!
1. What we’re eating this week
This week I had absolutely no meal plan or grocery list so we have a whole bunch of randomness going on in the fridge and cabinets.
Monday was little man’s Birthday so he got to choose and asked for Spaghetti and meatballs. My mom picked up the cutest little pot of meatballs from a restraunt around the corner from us and I made some spaghetti. He had the best day. π
We also had a house full of girls Sunday evening for a pizza party to end out our softball season, so I have a good bit of leftover pizza for the remainder of the week. I’m also going to cook up some impossible burgers one night.
Has anyone every tried the impossible burger?! Its a meat free, soy free, gluten free burger that is said to taste and feel just like meat. Impossible, right?! π
2. What I’m reminiscing about
This week, since my littlest turned five, we spent some time reminciing about him and his cute little baby self.
I just don’t know where the time has gone!
He came into our lives at the perfect time and has been nothing but a barrell of laughs ever since.
3. What I’m loving
I am loving the quick new flooring in out kitchen. Its not what we would choose if we were paying for it and doing our complete kitchen remodel, but it was FREE and in perfect condition and way better looking then what we currently had.
A good friend of mine was ripping all of her flooring up to replace it with the trending grey wood flooring. She asked if we were interested and I didn’t even skip a beat when I said yes.
This is the floor we were dealing with in the kitchen.
When we first toured the house this floor did not bother me one bit. I didn’t love it but I didn’t hate it either. After living with it for a few months, I started to hate it! I was embarrassed when people came over and avoided taking pictures with it showing at all costs. I’m not sure what it was about it, but I just did not like it one bit.
After a full day of working on it, this is what we have now…
I am loving this so much more.
We have big plans to knock down walls and rearrange the whole layout, but that’s way down the line for now. So this was a perfect temporary fix and I am super happy with it.
4. What we’ve been up to
In January we celebrated Sophia’s 13th birthday!
She wanted so badly to go to The Great Wolf Lodge. We took her there for her 9th and 10th birthday and she loved it so much, she said she wanted to go back even though she outgrew the characters and little kid stuff.
We told her we couldn’t afford it this year and we would try to do something fun at home to celebrate her teen years, but we were secretly planning a quick trip behind her back. π
We surprised her at school the day before her birthday and took her, Cecilia and two friends to stay the night there.
My mom spoiled the girls with a fun package that included, mini golf, bowling, a stop at the candy store, ice cream, and so much more! Plus they had free range in the water park for two days. She was super surprised and had such a great time celebrating.
Other then that, we have been wrapping up the girls travel ball season so they can get ready for their school softball tryouts.
We ended their season with an overnight tournament called Girls Night Out. They played four games at 9:00pm, 11:30pm, 2am, and 5:45am. That last one was brutal since we had a 2.5 hour wait between games, but all in all it was a super fun experience that all the girls say they would love to do again next year.
5. What I’m dreading
The dentist with my little man. Poor kid has a ton of work he needs done on some of his back teeth. All of the dentists we’ve seen are recommending general anastesia to get the work done. We’re against it for many reasons, but also want to fix up his teeth and move on.
He’s got a final consult coming up in a couple of months with a specialist at Nemours so we shall see what they say. But I am so dreading the entire experience.
6. What I’m working on
This week I’m working on finishing up our Mudroom!! When we moved in the mudroom was actually a laundry room. Which I was sooo excited about. I had always wanted a main floor laundry. But then we realized that the dryer vent was out in the garage causing so much lint build up all over! It was even behind the light switch covers and outlets! Talk about a fire hazard.
So our best bet was to move the laundry down stairs and turn that upstairs room into a mudroom.
Last year we madeover our powder room that’s attached to that hallway for well under $100!. It was such an incredible transformation for so cheap. After that was finished up we ordered more of the floor pop tiles to bring it out into the mudroom. We’ve been at a standstill on the project lately since all of our weekends have been filled with family events, birthday parties and softball, but I am determined to finish it up this week and share the final product with you all! Heres a little sneak at the transformation so far….
This is what the room looked like when we first moved in…
And here is a shot of it “under construction” I can’t wait to finish it up and show you guys the final pictures.
7. What I’m excited about
I’m super excited to get this mudroom finished so we can move on to the next fun makeover…
8. What I’m watching/reading
I mentioned earlier how I’ve been in the February Funk lately and have been suffering from a major creative block. Well that pertains to my reading too.
I was on a roll last year, and this year I’m falling short so far. I did finish up one book in January and am currently reading “What Alice Forgot”,I’m hoping to get that finished and then maybe get one more out of the way over the weekend so I can start back up with my book review posts.
You can check out all of my 2019 book reviews here.
9. What I”m listening to
I’m not currently listening to much, but am looking for some great motivational podcasts. So if you have any good rec’s drop a comment below!
10. What I’m wearing
I am STILL slacking in this department y’all. I am not at all happy with myself or my weight right now so I have been living in my favorite Amazon leggings and T-shirts, but I finally got myself back to the gym last night and am hoping to make a habit of it from here on out, so stay tuned for my Fahionista side to finally come out! π
11. What I’m doing this weekend
This weekend we will be going to my brother and sister in laws wrestling event. They own a semi professional wrestling company here in Delaware. The kids absolutely love it, which I think is so funny since neither Mike or I are really wrestling fans.
They have been going for eight years now though, so I guess its just always been a part of them. They do put on a great show and we get front row seats which is super fun!
12. What I’m looking forward to next month
Next month I’m looking forward to getting back into the swing of things and really diving deep into my health and fitness. Its been a long time coming and I’m super excited to get back to a good program.
13. What else is new
Other then that, its been pretty quiet on the homefront. We are laying low and saving all of out pennies for a big trip to Cali in October. Trying to have a lot of down time here. Chiping away at little home improvement projects and preppeing for spring time softball.
Life is good, and I feel so blessed. π
I hope you all are having an amazing year so far! It feels so good to be back here writing!

The tournament was a blast! Saturday-Sunday chores and errands after no sleep-not so much haha but we will definitely be doing it again next year π
You’ve been busy!! The powder room is looking amazing from what I can see in the sneak peek. I love the floor!
