August Book Review

It’s September 1st guys!! I’m in such shock right now about that.

I tried desperatly to get at least three in for you guys this month, but it just didn’t happen.

My summer reading list ended up not being half as long as I was hoping it would be! I had such big plans for books this summer, but the time has once again slipped away from me.

I did read two this month, one was great the other I’m still kind of unsure of!

Both of them took a bit of time for me to really get into. The second one I didn’t LOVE but it wasn’t bad either once I got through the very repetitive first half of it.

The first book I read this month was called, “A Man Called Ove” by Fredrik Backman.

I actually started this book at the end of July but for some reason it took me FOREVER To get through it.

At first I thought it was just going to be a slow, boring read for me, but I think it was more just the fact that I was so on the go at the end of July/beginning of August. We were finishing up softball and then trying to pack in as much “vacation” as we could.

So I was reading at every chance I got, which was usually only about 5 minute increments.

Once I finally got into it though, I really ended up loving this book.

It was such a fun light read.

A Man Called Ove, is about a very grumpy older man, the story of his childhood and upbringing, and the future or lack there of that lies ahead.

When new neighbors move in across the street from him, Ove’s life changes in ways he never thought they would.

This book had me laughing and crying all at once.

It was such a sweet, heartfelt story about kindness and acceptance and coming together.

A story of unexcepted friends. And life’s difficult moments that can both tear us apart and bring us together all at once.

I would highly recommend that you pick up a copy.

It was such a super sweet story that I will always remember.

The next book I read was “Truly, Madly, Guilty” By Lianne Moriarty

This one was really tricky for me.

I feel like part of me loved it and the other part of me hated it.

It was THE MOST slow read for me for the first 1/2 of the book.

The book focuses on a group of adult couples who get together for a BBQ one night.

Something awful happens at the BBQ that changes all of their lives.

The book jumps back and forth between the day of the BBQ and the present day , while also jumping back and forth between all 6 adults involved and their perspective of the day.

How they are coping.

How they were effected.

The problem for me was, that they talk about that awful life changing event over and over and over throughout the first 1/2 of the book, without acutally telling you what happened! Which is almost 300 pages worth.

Once Lianne Moriarty FINALLY gets to the point, I did enjoy the book.

Its not really at all what I was expecting.

There were a few little plot twists.

I don’t know, I’m having a tough time collecting my thoughts on this one.

I was able to read it fairly quick, but I truly felt bored to death for the entire first half. I think if it was shortened a bit it would have grabbed my attention a little more.

Anyone else read it?

Thoughts?

I’m still a little unsure on my recommendation for this one. I think some of you might love it, some might feel torn like me and some of you might hate it.

So bummed that those are the only two I got through this month.

I started and stopped my third book so many times.

As soon as I was ready to sit down and read ,something would come up and by the time I got back to it, I felt like I needed to start all over.

And so it went…

I’m kind of bummed, since my reading goal this year was 45 books and I’m only on book 22 right now, but you never know!

All I have to do is read 6 books every month for the rest of the year….piece of cake right? 😉

Let me know below if you’ve read either of these books! I would love to hear your thoughts on them. And would love some more recommendations to finish off the year!

Make sure to check out the other books I’ve read so far this year!

I loved loved loved OVE. I read it once, listened to it once, read it again, then watched the movie twice. I never do this. One of my favorite books of all time.
